Let’s be clear: ME patients have dysbiosis – like HIV patients. They develop non-infectious sequelae (cancer etc.) – like HIV patients. They have a massive deficiency in the Epstein-Barr virus-specific response of memory B and T cells – similar to the lack of EBV memory responses of HIV infected individuals. They have strong neurological and neurocognitive problems – like HIV-infected people. Partners of ME patients have an increased prevalence of 3.2% – like partners of HIV-infected people. ME appears in epidemics and clusters and has become a pandemic over the past 30 years – like HIV. And last but not least, in the blood of ME patients, retroviruses were found – as in HIV-infected people.

Given these facts, one wonders how long scientists can still afford to stack bricks instead of building a solid house and putting the puzzle together?
